This TV converter box comes with the option of searching for all of your channels at one time or individually selecting them on your own. It also comes with analog pass-through so you can keep watching smaller low power television stations. This TV converter box comes with an electronic show guide that is better than what you get with most other TV converter boxes. This DTV converter box even has closed captioning personalization.

If you are looking for a top notch TV converter box in regards to picture clarity then the Digital Stream DSP7700T is not right for you. The DSP7700T TV converter box does provide a significant upgrade analog television but there are clearly many other digital TV converter boxes out there that have a better overall picture clarity.

The sound clarity of the Digital Stream DSP7700T is very crisp and very clear. When watching TV with this TV converter box running you do not hear even the slightest bit of static. If sound quality is most important to you then this is a TV converter to consider.

As a whole this TV converter box is a pretty decent one. It is clearly not the best TV converter box on the market but it does have all of the necessary features of a TV converter box, including analog pass-through. The only problem is that this TV converter box sells for ($66) $5-$10 more than most but it doesn't really offer any extra benefits.

If it comes with analog pass-through it would have been rated an A+ but since it is missing such an essential feature we were forced to lower it by a whole letter grade. For those that don't need pass-through this is a great TV converter.

This TV converter box comes with multi-language settings that include french, English, and Spanish. It also comes with a signal strength meter for individual channel tuning and the ability to search for all channels at once. The program guide for the DTA-1010D TV converter box is also very good. It is better than most other TV converter boxes and provides users with ample information for current and upcoming shows.

This TV converter comes with excellent sound. The sound clarity this TV converter box is reminiscent of watching a DVD and a major improvement over analog sound.

The picture clarity of the Access HD DTA-1010D TV converter box is also quite good. When watching with the TV converter box you will get one of the best pictures that is possible with a TV converter box.

If this TV converter box only had analog pass-through our review and comparison would have rated it as one of the 3 best TV converter boxes. Even with it missing that feature it is still an awesome one of the TV converter boxes that will significantly enhance your viewing experience. The COShip N9988T TV converter box is a very unique TV converter box in that it comes with some features that we have not seen with almost any other digital converter boxes. It grades out fairly highly because of this but since it is lacking analog pass-through we couldn't give it a grade any higher than a B+.

The COShip N9988T TV converter box is one of only a few TV converter boxes that has come with the auto aspect ratio function. This means that the aspect ratio will automatically be adjusted based off your TV type. The N9988T TV converter box also comes with a show guide that is better than the average TV converter box. Our review and rating also revealed that it comes with a signal strength meter for channel tuning and changeable closed captioning text.

This analog digital converter box comes with pretty darn good picture clarity. It is a slight step below the quality of the Tivax, DTVPal, and Channel Master TV converter but still very good. The only issues with its picture quality are when watching HDTV there is a bit of blurring and stretching of images. In order to help improve clarity and get extra channels with this converter box you may want to try a digital HDTV antenna.

This TV converter box's clearness of sound is quite excellent. When listening to sound through it you get an extremely crisp and clear sound that is equal to the quality of DVD sound.

As a whole the COShip N9988T is an excellent TV converter box. Its auto aspect ratio feature is a very nice feature that you don't seem very often with other TV converter boxes. If you are interested in one of the cheapest TV converter boxes ($50) but still want a quality on then you should check this one out.

The Sansonic FT300A TV converter comes with dual channel tuning functions, an television show program guide, and a signal reception meter. This analog digital converter is also one of the smallest models available. The Sansonic FT300A does not come with analog pass-through, auto aspect ratio, a universal remote, or adjustable closed captioning. This is the first TV converter box that we have rated that doesn't have adjustable closed captioning.

The Sansonic FT300A digital TV converter box transmits a very good picture. This is what saves the day for the FT300A. If it wasn't for its amazing picture clarity it would probably get a bad grade. The Sansonic FT300 also provides users with for good audio sound clearness. As with all converter boxes it might be wise to consider some sort of digital TV antenna to help your reception.

As a whole the Sansonic FT300A is an average TV converter box that will complete all the functions that you will need for a analog digital converter. The problem is that it has less features but is still equally priced at $65. If you are considering the Sansonic FT300A we suggest switching and getting the Lasonic LTA-260. the Lasonic LTA-260 is almost exactly the same but comes with more features.

It has been upgraded to include analog pass-through but is otherwise exactly the same. It sells for $65 and we highly recommend it as noted by our final rating we gave it.
A comparison of the Artect T3AP Pro TV converter box revealed that it has a wide set of features that make it an excellent choice. This TV converter box provides users with a programming guide, a signal strength meter, analog pass-through, closed captioning font adjustments, auto scan for channels, and individual channel tuning. The only thing that this TV converter is still lacking is a universal remote control.

The picture that this TV converter box sends out is nearly as good as what you get from a DVD. This TV converter box rated near the top in regards to its picture. The sound provided by the Artec T3AP Pro was also very very good. If you like this converter box it would be a great purchase, we also suggest that to enhance your experience you get the Artec AN2 digital antenna. This TV converter box however does not come with a universal remote control or analog pass-through.

The Artec T3A Pro TV converter box provides one of the best pictures of all of the TV converter boxes that we have reviewed so far. It provides a crystal clear picture that is almost equivalent to that of a DVD. The Artec T3A Pro TV converter box also provides users with excellent sound. There seems to be a lack of popularity with this TV converter box but it is clearly one of the best ones. It is very cheap at only $65 and has nearly every feature imaginable and more than most TV converter boxes that we have compared and rated so far.

The Insignia NS-DXA1 comes with an auto aspect ratio setting, manual and auto scan tuning, a universal remote control, adjustable captioning, and a better than average programming guide. The only thing the Insignia NS-DXA1 TV converter box does not come with is analog pass-through.

The Insignia NS-DXA1 TV converter box provides viewers with a very good picture. The quality of the picture with the NS-DXA1 is comparable to that of the Magnavox TB100MW9 and is only slightly behind the very top TV converter boxes on the market. This TV converter box all provides viewers with excellent crystal clear sound quality.

When making a comparison to other TV converter boxes it is just as good as most of them that we have reviewed so far. The DTX9900 sells for around $65 and is a good buy. If you are interested in getting a digital TV converter this is definitely one to consider. It is very similar to the Digital Stream DSP7500T but its about $10 cheaper.

The Digital Stream DTX 9900 comes with and automatic scanning function for setting channels. It also comes with a universal remote control and closed captioning adjustment functions. This TV converter box gives one of the more detailed programming guides in comparison to other TV converter boxes that we have looked at.

The Digital Stream DTX9900 does not come with analog pass through or any form of auto aspect ratio setup.

The picture for the DTX9900 is rated to be pretty low. The Digital Stream DTX9900 gives viewers a picture that rivals that of good analog TV reception. This means that there is still a but of fuzziness but that it gives you a picture that is better than most analog broadcasts. The sound for this TV converter is comparable to that of most TV converter boxes and is an upgrade from analog television sound.

Overall, the Digital Stream DTX990 rates out at a B. This means that it is rated pretty well on our scale. The major problem is that it is missing analog pass through and you can get a better picture with other TV converter boxes.

When comparing the DSP7500T to other analog digital TV converter boxes it is simply to expensive. The DSP7500T is very similar to a lot of other TV converter boxes but for some reason it is $20 more than most of them. In fact it is nearly identical to the Digital Stream DTX9900 but is $10 more.

The DSP7500T comes with an above average programming guide that shows viewers the title and description for current and upcoming shows. This TV converter also gives users two different options for tuning in their digital TV stations. Finally, the Digital Stream DSP7500T comes with closed captioning adjustment features and a universal remote control.

The DSP7500T TV converter box provides good sound that is better than analog TV sound. It also gives users an upgrade as far as its picture goes. Despite this the Digital Stream TV converter box does not compare in quality when looking at other cheaper TV converter boxes.

The Digital Stream DSp7500T TV converter box has shown that it is definitely good enough to perform the functions need but that it is simply not the best TV converter box on the market.

The RCA DTA800B is lacking necessary features and still sells for $65, which is quite a bit more than other TV converters that come with more features.

The RCA analog digital converter box does come with a programming guide and a scan-for-all tuning function. It also comes with a universal remote and adjustable closed caption fonts.

This TV converter boxes picture is rated very high. The RCA's picture is the only positive about it. The picture for the RCA in digital broadcasting is slightly below DVD quality. It is a significant upgrade from analog TV. In order to increase the performance of your converter box we recommend that you get one of the RCA digigtal antennas.

The sound put out by the RCA DTA800B is rated to be just as good as most other TV converter boxes on the market.

The General Electric (GE) 22730 is rated very low on our scale just like its counterpart, the GE 22729. The GE 22730 is very similar to all of the other digital converter boxes we have reviewed but for some reason its final costs is significantly higher at $70. We do not recommend purchasing the GE 22730.

The GE 22730 analog digital TV converter box comes with an above average program guide that provides viewers with a show description and run time. It also comes with the scan-for-all function or individual channel tuning and adjustable closed captioning. This TV converter box does not come with analog pass through.

The GE 22730's picture is a step below that of most of the TV converter boxes that we have reviewed. Because of this reason we have rated is pretty low. The picture however is still better than what you would get from an analog TV broadcast.

The GE 22730's sound is on par with all of the other TV converter boxes that we have compared. It is an upgrade from the sound of analog television.

The General Electric (GE) 22729 is rated fairly low on our grading scale when compared to other digital TV converter box we have rated. It has nearly all of the same features as every other digital converter box we have reviewed and produces a lower quality picture but for some reason costs $20 more!!! We would not recommend this TV converter box to anybody.

The GE 22729 comes with one of the better programming guides in comparison to the other converters we reviewed. It also comes with individual channel tuning or the "scan-for-all" function. This TV converter box also comes with adjustable closed captioning and smart antenna technology.

The GE 22729's picture was not bad by any means but it was also not up to par with other TV converter Boxes on the market. The picture while watching in HD was obvious.

The GE 22729's sound was just about the same as all of the other DTV converter boxes available and was better than what you get with analog TV.

When reviewing this converter we came to the conclusion that it is one of the best in comparison to all of the others that are available.

The Zenith DTT901 TV converter box is probably by far the best TV converter box that we have seen on the market when considering price. The Zenith DTT901 is very similar to the Zenith DTT900 except for that it is the upgraded version. The Zenith DTT900 was upgrade to include analog pass through in the Zenith DTT901. This TV converter box also comes with a program display guide, adjustable closed captioning, a universal remote, auto aspect ration, and A/V cables.

A review of the the Zenith DTT901 TV converter box revealed that it puts out a very good picture when compared to others on the market. This analog to digital converter box provides viewers with a nearly DVD viewing experience.

The Zenith DTT901 TV converter box provides some of the best sound of any converter box. The sound is crystal clear and you don't have to worry about the analog static that you are use to anymore.

A look at the Zenith DTT900 revealed that it is one of the best digital converter boxes currently available. I would not recommend buying it though because you can get the Zenith DTT901 for the same price and it includes the analog pass through feature. This TV converter costs $59.99 at most stores and is eligible for the purchase with the government coupon.

The Zenith DTT900 comes with an abundance of features. The Zenith DTT900 TV converter box is rated very highly due to the the fact that it is one of the most complete TV converter boxes on the market. The only box that is considered to be better is the Zenith DTT901 because it is the updated version of the Zenith DTT900. The Zenith DTT900's program guide gives viewers information about the current shows title and run time as well as for upcoming shows. It also comes with adjustable closed captioning fonts, an auto scan or manual channel setting function, and automatic aspect ratio tuning.

The only feature the Zenith DTT900 is missing is analog pass through.

The picture of the Zenith DTT900 is very good when compared to that of other analog to digital converter boxes on the market. The quality you get with this TV converter is better than what you get with Analog TV. When using it you will get a television picture that is slightly below the DVD. The Zenith DTT900 is rated very well in this area and is better than most converter boxes.

After writing about the digital transition for awhile and trying to decided on a TV converter box of my own I realized that there is not a lot of information on TV converter boxes on the internet. This is why I decided to write some of my own.

The reviews I am writing will consist of a grade for each TV converter box, a comparison of each digital TV converter boxes features, and a review of how well the TV converter box works.

My goals is provide my readers with a short list of 10-15 different reviews so that they can go out and be confident and make the correct decision about which DTV converter box is best for them.

What is Digital Television (DTV)?

Digital telvision or DTV is an new and innovative type of television broadcasting signal. DTV signals allow television stations to provide better sound quality and better picture quality. Digital telvision signals also allow television stations to provide viewers with significantly more programming options.

What is analog TV?

Analog TV is the older more traditional type of broadcasting signals that have been used since the beginning of television. Analog signals limit the programming options TV stations can provide, take up much more of the airwave spectrum, and deliver a lower quality picture.

Is DTV the same and HDTV?

No, DTV is merely digital television while HDTV is High-Definition digital televison. Having a DTV means that your TV has the capability to be used for HDTV but it is not required.

What is the Digital TV (DTV) Transition?

The digital television transition is the switch from analog and digital television signals to exclusively digital television signals. On February 17th,2009 the switch will occur and the result will be that analog televisions with no longer work for the viewing of television shows unless you have a TV converter box, cable, or satellite. The digital transition is a government mandated transition so it will be occuring for sure.

Can you give me some history on the Digital Transition?

In 1996 the U.S. government issued the right to another broadcast channel to all television stations for the use of digital signals. When they gave broadcasters this right they also mandated that in 2009 all full-power stations must switch over to a 100% digital signal.

Why have a DTV Transition?

The analog to digital transition will be occurring for several different reasons. The main reason for the digital TV transition is to open up spectrum airwaves for public safety communications (police, ambulance, fire). Other portions of the analog spectrum will be auctioned off to the companies so that they can be used for wireless services. The digital television transition also promises to give consumers a few significant benefits. Digital television will allow all television viewers to get a better picture, better sound quality, and more programming options. More programming options will be available through a technology called multicasting. Multicasting will allow television stations to offer sub channels with different shows while still only using the same amount of airwaves. The DTV transition will also allow television stations to provide significantly better closed captioning.

How will the DTV Transition impact me?

If you have an older analog television then the DTV transition will affect you. Without a newer television that is equipped with a digital tuner your TV will no longer work after the transition. You television will continue to work the the viewing of DVDs, VHS, and video games but will not work for the viewing of television. You TV will however continue to work if you subscribe to satellite or cable until 2011. In order to avoid a negative impact due to the DTV transition there are three different things you can do. You can get a digital converter box that will be used along with your old analog TV, subscribe to cable or satellite, or get a new TV that is equipped with a digital tuner.

Will I have to thrown away my analog TV after the transition?

No, if you have a analog digital converter box you can hook it up to your analog TV to continue using it. You will also have the option of cable or satellite to continue using your analog TV.

What can I do to prepare for the digital transition?

Before February 17th,2009 you need to do one of three different things. You can subscribe to cable or satellite, get a new digital TV, or get a DTV converter box. If you are interested in getting a new TV just go to any local electronics stores and make sure you ask if the new TV you want to purchase has a digital tuner. You can call your local cable provide or check with Dish Network if you want to go that route. If you want to keep your older analog television and continue using it then you will need to purchase a digital converter box from a local electronics store. It would also be wise to check out your what type of digital signal you get before the transition because a digital TV antenna might also be needed in order to get all channels.

What is a TV Converter Box?

An analog digital converter box is a small book shaped box that hooks into your TV. TV converter boxes all consumers with analog televisions to continue using them for the viewing of TV. Digital converter boxes pick up digital television signals and and converter them so that they can be viewed on analog TVs. DTV converter boxes are very small (size of your average hardback book) and are very easy to hook up to your TV.

Can I get a digital-to-analog converter box today and begin watching in digital?

Yes, converter boxes can be purchased today and immediately hooked up to your TV for the viewing of digital television. Most stations are already broadcasting in digital and switching now will allow you to take advantage of the benefits of digital television immediately.

Where can I purchase a digital TV converter?

Digital TV converters can be purchase online through many different retailers including Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Amazon. You can also purchase a digital to analog TV converter from you local electronics retailer. When making your purchase be sure to only buy government certified DTV converters and be sure to only make your purchase from a governmetn certified dtv converter retailer.

How much does a digital converter cost?

Most DTV converter boxes range from $50-$75. This may see to be expensive to some but it is way cheaper than purchasing a brand new TV or being forced to add cable or satellite services. The NTIA is sponsoring a TV converter box coupon program to help reduce the cost of purchasing a digital to analog converter.

What is the NTIA sponsored Digital Converter Box Coupon Program?
The NTIA (National Telecommunications and Information Administration) coupon program is a government sponsored program that allows consumers to get two $40 off coupons toward the purchase of a TV converter. Each household in the U.S. can request up to two coupons while supplies last. All TV converter box coupons must be used at the time purchase at a certified retailer store for the purchase of a government certified analog digital converter.
